Cultural Heritage Master Plan Project Update #1: August 18, 2021

Welcome to our first Project Update for the Halton Hills Cultural Heritage Master Plan! We’re so glad that you’ve decided to follow along with this process, and we hope you’ll stay engaged with us over the next two years until the Master Plan is complete.

Today’s Project Update comes from ERA Architects - we're a cultural heritage planning and architecture firm based out of Toronto, and we’re so excited to get to work with the Town of Halton Hills on this Master Plan.

Since our project kick-off in late June 2021, we’ve spent the last month (and will spend the next few months) in an initial information-gathering phase, with tasks like:

  • Research on the town’s history and evolution

  • Site visits to see and understand Halton Hills in person

  • Review of the existing listed and designated heritage properties in Halton Hills, to understand what’s protected and what’s not

  • Review of the existing provincial and municipal policies that protect heritage in Halton Hills

A key part of our information-gathering is public engagement! We want to hear from you – and all your neighbours, friends, colleagues, kids, parents and more. We’ve been working this month to set up our Let’s Talk Halton Hills public engagement webpage, and we’re getting ready to spread the word far and wide about it. Keep an eye out in the next few weeks as our survey and mapping exercise goes live here!

We’ve also been reaching out to First Nations communities with historical relationships and/or legal treaty rights to today’s Halton Hills, to ensure that any and all interested communities will be included in the Cultural Heritage Master Plan's development.

That’s all from us today! We’ll continue to update you here, on a bi-monthly basis, to share what's going on with this project. In the meantime, keep an eye on our Let’s Talk Halton Hills webpage for surveys, mapping, project details, Public Open House notices, and more.
