Notice of Passing - Cannabis Cultivation and Processing

On July 8th Halton Hills Council passed By-laws 2019-0034, 2019-0035, and 2019-0036 to regulate cultivation and production within the Town. Statutory Public Meeting - Cannabis Cultivation and Processing

On May 6, 2019 a Public Meeting was held before Council as part of the Town's consultation strategy for the project. The meeting also fulfilled Planning Act requirements for public consultation for municipally-initiated Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments. The meeting included a short presentation by Town staff and Meridian Planning Consultants. Afterwards, members of the public in attendance were given the opportunity to ask questions and voice their opinions on cultivation and processing in Halton Hills.

An accompanying Public Meeting Report was included with the agenda for the evening. Included in this report was a summary and analysis of the survey that was open to the Cannabis Survey, available to the public from December 18, 2018 to January 16, 2019.

Directions Report – Cannabis Cultivation and Processing

On April 9, 2019 the Town’s Planning, Public Works and Transportation Committee approved a directions report on cultivation and processing. This report:

  • Outlined public agency and stakeholder consultation effort to date;
  • Summarized public engagement efforts, including the cannabis survey on Let’s Talk Halton Hills from December 18, 2018 to January 16, 2019;
  • Identified three policy options for cannabis cultivation and processing developed by Town Planning Staff and Meridian Planning Consultants;
  • Identified the preferred policy option for Committee endorsement.

In approving the report, the Committee has endorsed the preferred policy option and authorized a public meeting on cannabis cultivation and processing.

On January 21, 2019 Town Council voted to allow retail cannabis storefronts in Halton Hills. See more here.

Results of the public consultation (including online and in-person engagement) regarding retail cannabis storefronts can be found here.

Input from the consultation regarding cannabis growing, processing and zoning will be used to inform an upcoming report from the Planning Department.

    The legalization of recreational cannabis on October 17, 2018 has prompted municipalities throughout the province to consider how they will regulate production, whether retail stores will be permitted, and how issues related to recreational use of cannabis be addressed.

    The following survey provides the Halton Hills community an opportunity to share their thoughts on cannabis. Responses and input gathered from this survey will help inform studies being undertaken on cannabis production and recreational use in Halton Hills.
