  • Note: If you recently received a request to participate in the Climate Change Investment Fund survey and already completed it, there is no need to complete this one.

The Town of Halton Hills is reviewing the Community Sustainability Investment Fund (CSIF), which was made available annually to eligible community groups and organizations from 2014 to 2020. The primary focus of the CSIF was to allocate funding to approved applicants for the implementation of sustainability initiatives within Halton Hills, with a specific emphasis on cultural vibrancy, economic prosperity, environmental health, and social well-being.

The purpose of this funding was to leverage community funds to enhance projects that implement the Integrated Community Sustainability Strategy.

Completing this survey should take approximately five minutes of your time. The information you provide will be valuable in shaping future funding programs.

Similar to other communities in Ontario, Halton Hills experienced an outbreak of Lymantria Dispar Dispar (LDD) moths (gypsy moths) on trees, in 2021. To understand the depth of this outbreak, the Town is conducting a survey to get feedback from residents who noticed LDDs on trees on their property, in woodlots, roads, parks, or cemeteries.

The caterpillar of this insect tends to prefer all species of oak, but will also feed on poplar, birch, willow, maple, beech, and cherry. If faced with a shortage of deciduous leaves, they will feed on conifers (hemlock, pine and spruce) and ornamental shrubs. Healthy trees can usually withstand losing their leaves for a few years, but several years of defoliation can weaken and even kill vulnerable trees.

Most of the trees in Halton Hills are on private land, however we are interested in identifying all areas that have been impacted by LDD. The results of this survey will shape the recommendations put forth to Council later in 2021.
