Consultation has concluded.


The project is now complete, with Council adopting Official Plan Amendment No. 37.The Notice of Adoption was completed on September 18, 2019. The Plan has been sent to the Region of Halton for approval.

Destination Downtown is a Planning Study for Downtown Georgetown that will guide growth and development over the next 20 years, to continue its evolution as a culturally and economically vibrant destination for residents, workers, and visitors.

Through development of the Plan, a clear vision for Downtown Georgetown will be developed as well as updated policies related to land uses, building heights, density and urban design. The study will consider the historic character, natural areas, housing, business and public spaces that make Downtown Georgetown great today, and how they can be enhanced in the future.

    Can we post more by-law signs (stoop and scoop) along Chapel Street and Day Foot many are not being diligent in regards to picking up after their dogs.

    Thank you for your email. I have talked with staff in by-law enforcement and recreation and parks about your question. Parks staff will be out to look and determine if more signs are necessary. I will also contact public works staff and ask them to do the same as signs on right of ways are within their juristiction.

    wondering if the traffic mirror (going through) Honk bridge on John St. can be replaced.

    Thank you for your email. I have been advised that Public Works is aware the mirror is missing and a new one has been ordered. Unfortunately it is taking some time to come in. As soon as it arrives, it will be installed.

    I love the preliminary preferred alternative plan for downtown - the public square, linear park, and retail/restaurant mix strike a great balance. I think the additional density will make downtown a more vibrant place and allow businesses and community events to be more sustainable. Is there any sense of which of these changes might occur first, and if so, when? Am I right in assuming this is largely a matter of zoning and that changes will occur as developers purchase the properties in question?

    Thank you so much for your email. There are still a number of detailed studies to be undertaken to make sure the area can accommodate the growth being presented in the Downtown Alternative including a review of transportation, parking, servicing and a market review. Based on the results of these and other studies, there may be changes to the draft plan for Downtown. The Downtown Georgetown Secondary Plan is a long term vision and will take many years to implement. Development such as this requires both public and private partners, but you are correct that changes will begin to happen as either existing property owners choose to develop or developers buy lands and start to implement these changes.

    Hello, I am a resident/home owner of Downtown Georgetown and was just looking at the 4 Alternative Designs for possible Downtown plans. I was wondering if there will be another meeting about these plans and if residents will be given an option to vote on the designs? I am very concerned about the Alternative #3 - The Village Green, which plans to intensify the downtown core by an extra 650 units and expand the area downtown boundary to include existing single family dwellings. I am wondering how 6-storey apartment buildings across from existing residences fits into the "mature neighbourhood" character of Downtown, especially after the changes to the zoning by-laws to prevent monster homes in the downtown core. I am also wondering what impact the traffic caused by an additional 650 units will have on the downtown core? I hope that we consider the long-term impact that these changes will have on our beautiful downtown and not just the short-term profits, that will mostly benefit the developers.     Good morning. Thank you for your comments. The consultant team has taken the aspects that people liked from each of the 4 alternatives and created a draft preferred alternative. This alternative was presented at the May 24, 2018 public workshop for comment. A summary of what people liked and didn't like about each alternative, as well as the preferred draft alternative is included in the presentation from May 24, which is available here. There is still a lot of time to provide input on the alternative over the summer.  You will see at the end of the presentation, that there is a lot of more detailed technical work to be undertaken, such as traffic implications, over the summer months.
